The Retro Renovation Project: Manufacturing Solid Wood Furniture for La Pièce

The editor-in-chief of Canapé magazine, Azélie Pilon, and her partner have completely renovated a building dating back to 1960, nestled in the Sillery district of Quebec City.

Wishing to preserve the soul of the house, they opted for a mid-century inspired decor and enlisted the expertise of Fabrique Allwood, a manufacturer of solid wood and steel furniture, to create the central elements of the dining room.

Somerset dining table and Frontenac bench

Azélie and her partner fell in love with the Somerset Table, a timeless model whose originality lies in its tabletop, traversed along its entire length by a fine, distinctive slot. The Frontenac bench was also chosen to bring a touch of modernity and conviviality to the dining area. Practical and versatile, it's an ideal choice for a family home. For the wood species, they chose oak, a durable and timeless wood.

The custom-made bookcase

The other strong element of the dining room is the bookcase, custom-made to perfectly integrate into the wall space. The couple wanted a dark wood species, in keeping with the kitchen cabinets. Our team suggested solid oak enhanced with a custom-developed brown finish, a local and more affordable option than naturally dark wood like walnut.

In terms of design, the alternation of open shelves and closed modules creates a beautiful balance between storage and display. It features books, a few plants, and, of course, the couple's turntable, carefully integrated to become a true decorative piece.

The custom-made bench

In the entryway, the couple wanted a custom-made bench integrated into the alcove. Our cabinetmakers developed a seat with discreet drawers for storing shoes and accessories, thus freeing up space while maintaining a neat appearance. Made of solid oak and also stained with a dark brown color development, it ensures a visual aesthetic from the moment you step inside.
